There's a chill in the air so join me as we escape to warmer climes for today's destination wedding!
Sumner and Tina had a dreamy pastel hued wedding in Hawaii at the Loulu Palm Estate, on the island of Oahu, surrounded by turquoise blue water and lush, tropical mountains. Sigh.
Sumner and Tina infused their love of the ocean into their day with bridesmaids in seafoam dresses by Donna Morgan, starfish escort cards and shell topped cupcakes.
The groom and his groomsmen had ‘relaxed destination wedding attire' down to a tee – light coloured suits, open collars and no ties. While Tina was absolutely stunning in her figure hugging, backless Katie May wedding dress and delicate backlace. (Is that even a word? Like a necklace but for your back.) She sported a pretty up ‘do for the ceremony then let her hair down afterwards, accessorised with the loveliest ‘haku', a traditional Hawaiian floral crown.
The Wedding Style & Colour Palette
The inspiration behind my wedding details came a lot from our love of the ocean. I chose Loulu not only for its beauty, but for its location. We live and have made our home on the North Shore so I really wanted our closest friends and family to come and see where we are starting our life.
I also knew that we had to get married near the beach! The ocean plays such a huge part in our lives and our relationship that it just wouldn't have been the same without it. I wanted to keep the colors as complimentary to our scenery as possible. That's why I went with pale blues and sea foam greens and a little bit of lavender to go on an almost all white palette. I didn't want anything to overwhelm the beauty of our natural surroundings.
For the flowers, I wanted to keep everything very light and romantic. I chose baby's breath because I love the airy look that it has. We had garden roses, because of the romantic feel that they add. I also had to have peonies in my bouquet because I love them and I always have! Kristina (my wedding planner) and I also had a lot of fun with mixing and matching centrepieces. I thought it would give the venue a bit of a more intimate feel if all the centrepieces were similar but different.
The whole wedding was absolutely unforgettable – from the preparations to the nose flute to the late night bonfire, everything was perfect! But, I think the most meaningful moments were the speeches. It was amazing to have our family and friends come up and give such heartfelt speeches. Listening to them again made me so happy.
The details that I loved were my Haku and the late night s'mores station! Makena from Ocean Dreamer made me the most gorgeous Haku and it really took me from the ceremony to reception/party time! It felt so ME! And I have it dried and kept in a box to this day! (Maybe I will give it to my daughter one day.) The s'mores and bonfire were something that Sumner and I were both so excited about and it went off without a hitch. Everyone has come back and told us that it was so cool! Kristina was also the best and did a great job – I literally had my dream wedding!
Congratulations Tina and Sumner!
