When we think of crowns and weddings, two things come to mind.
First it's the flower crown, a pretty ring of fresh or faux flowers, and a boho bride staple.
Then of course there's sparkly bridal tiara (which, by the way, can go one of two ways, elegant, see Kate Middleton, or rather tacky, see, My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding.)
But the new bridal crown is altogether more chic.
Regal and sophisticated, yet playful and fun, it's a stylish statement that we've spotted adorning heads of brides more and more lately – and some grooms too – and we think it might just be the next big thing in bridal head wear.

A versatile look, you can opt for a something sparkly like Glinda The Good Witch, or something more sheer for a snow queen effect. While punk princesses can opt for something a little more edgy.
Of course as with most bridal trends, this one was kicked off on the catwalk. Look to old Vera Wang Princess perfume campaigns for a youthful, pretty and playful take on the look.
Recent collections which would add utter drama to your bridal style include Christian Lacroix‘s (below) Glinda-esque gem-encrusted crown and Dolce and Gabbana (also below) who channel a baroque bride with gilded detail and stunning embellishments.

And wedding crowns aren't just a style statement, they can also be symbolic.
In many faiths, brides and grooms wear crowns in their wedding ceremony to symbolise the couple's reign over their newly-created family. Look to some of our past real weddings, like Luwam and Delyet‘s epic Eritrean wedding and Jelena and Andjelko‘s orthodox ceremony for inspiration.

Okay, so we know this one isn't for everyone. But whether it's for an engagement shoot, some bridal portraits, a boudoir session, or even just wearing a crown for the ceremony or the dancing part of your day, there are subtle ways you can feature the crown look in your bridal style.
Of if you're a fashion-forward and fearless bride, go all out. After all, if you can't be the queen bee on your wedding day, when can you?
