As you know we're big fans of all kinds of wedding geekery around here – from big day techniness or computer game references, to vows made of film quotes and comic book favours.
And when we watched Nancy and Tony's movie-mad wedding film last week, (their celebrant announced the marriage with a lightsaber), it got us to thinking about what other big screen geekery people get up to on their wedding days.

And boy were we bombarded.
What started out as a post dedicated to all kinds of off-beat add-ons, turned into a Comic Con convention-worth of Stars Wars-themed ideas.
It seems that with the newest addition to the series on its way next year, there's no letting up in couples' enthusiasm for Leia and Han style nuptials.
But you know we like to keep it classy.
So from cake toppers and paper goods, to ditching your celebrant for a full suited and booted Darth Vader instead, check out our inspirational ideas a Star Wars themed wedding, that's still has a side of chic.
1. The Princess Bride

We're not suggesting you go all-out, braided buns on the side of your head for your wedding day.
Please don't!
Choosing a chic Gibson roll with added volume on the sides will give a sophisticated nod to Princess Leia's signature tresses.
2. Fancy Dress Party

Of course some Star Wars diehards will opt for the full Leia costume (à la 30 Rock's Liz Lemon) but for the rest of you, who simply want to allude to Leia, while still rocking a stunning dress, it's simple to do, once you look for a few synonymous traits.
A simple column dress, with not too much texture or adornments, a high neck, and long sleeves, perhaps even flared.
Opt for two out of three, and you'll have just the right amount of Leia, without looking too costumey.
3. Storm Trooper Topper

We always say, a cake topper is a nifty spot to add a little personality, without being too gimmicky.
From Mr & Mrs R2-D2 and AT-ATs to mini Hans and Leia's in everything from Lego to peg dolls, you can create your very own Star Wars statement from the top of your cake.
4. May the 4th

From the iconic credit sequence, to inviting your guests through the words of Joda himself, there are so many creative ways you can reference Star Wars in your Save the Dates and invitations.
Get creative and look to sites like Etsy and Pinterest for inspiration on classy options that your guests will still get a kick out of.
5. Table Manners

Why give your tables numbers, when you can give them quirky Star Wars names instead? Tatooine, Kamino, Mustafar would all make great names – while you can rename your bridal party to match the original cast.
(Whoever gets too tipsy during cocktail hour will be re-titled Jabba the Hut!)
5. I Know…

Why not test your guests on their knowledge of your favourite film with a quote-off?
Whether tables have play “who said it” among themselves, or you pick some choice quotes for the photobooth – Star Wars is a film loaded with iconic one-liners, so be sure to feature a few in your movie-themed bash.
6. Bow-Bi Wan

So you don't want to swap your tuxe for some chest hair, a waistcoat and a killer belt (why the heck not?) but you do want to add something galactic to your wedding day ensemble, why not opt for a starry dickie bow instead?
So we're not big fans of novelty ties – especially for weddings! – but these numbers manage to be sweet, discreet, and a little kooky.
7. Centre Force

We had no idea a helmet as a centrepiece could look so chic, but somehow, this couple have pulled it off.
If you do decide to opt for a Star Wars theme to your wedding, but you feel like somewhere amid all the Storm Troopers and Chewbacca jokes, you somehow lost your way, bring your theme back down to earth with elegant white linens and an abundance of blooms.
Flowers grow in Tatooine, right?
8. Vader Favour

How cute are these bags? There are so many great graphic designers with a penchant for all things Lucas, that you can get really stylish Star Wars accessories for your wedding, without looking tacky or dated.
Like with your invitations, look to the likes of Not on The Highstreet and Etsy for pretty pop art.
9. The C-3PO to my R2-D2

Perhaps your other half wanted a Star Wars wedding, but you began vetoing at the first whiff of a waiter dressed as C-3PO.
You can still have a discreet ode to the movie, without blaring out the John Williams theme music – cute features like boutonnieres or cufflinks add a little personality to more formal adornments.
10. I Do… or Do Not

Yoda isn't just the wisest guy in Star Wars – he's one of the wisest guys in movies, period.
Adopt his style of speak for your chalk boards and signage, and direct your guests with some whimsy on your wedding day.
11. Child Stars

Let the little child stars in your wedding get in on the act with mini Hans and Leia costumes.
Just remember, purists aren't too fond of the young Anakin, so keep any odes to the original three films, to quash any wedding day debates!
12. Sweet and Sabery
