Remember that creative cocktails and macarons shoot I featured a couple of weeks ago?

In the various colourful cocktails featured in the shoot such as the Sicilian Sour (recipe here) there was something rather delightful clinking around at the bottom of the glasses…

Floral ice cubes!

These frozen beauties are such a pretty addition to special occasion cocktails. (Think intimate gatherings such as hen dos, bridal showers and bachelorette parties as opposed to making hundreds of ice cubes for your wedding guests!)

Artisan macaron specialist, Reshmi of Anges de Sucre shows us how to make floral ice cubes.

What you will need:

– Silicone ice trays

– Organic edible flowers

– Drinking water

DIY Floral Ice Cube Tutorial

1. Fill a clean and deep ice cube tray (preferably silicone and not plastic as they are easier to ‘pop’) 1/3rd full with drinking water (preferably distilled, to achieve very clear ice), and place 1 or two flowers on top of each ice cube section and freeze.

2. Once 1st layer is frozen, fill with another 1/3rd layer of water and place another flower or two on top of each and freeze.

3. Once frozen, fill up to the top with water. The layering helps the flowers stay within the ice cube rather than float to the top.

4. Why not try other fun shapes such as heart shaped ice trays.
