Our cake columnist is back. And about time too, we were getting peckish.

Aficionado in all things iced, tiered, and spongey, Jaclyn Campbell, of Ivory & Rose Cake Company is taking us on a journey through the top wedding cake trends of 2014, from naked bakes to vintage cakes.

Last time she gave us an overview of what's in store for the year ahead, and this week it's all about metallics.

From skyscrapers of golden icing to palatial pyramids of gilded macaroons, these cakes are chic, stylish, opulent, and will have major wow factor on your dessert table.

Over to you Jaclyn…

Metallic Wedding Cakes

“Metallic gold is a hot colour for 2014 and incorporating edible gold leaf into your wedding cake design will really wow your guests.

Our metallic gold & dusty pink fluffy peony wedding cake is our most ordered cake so far for 2014. But other hot colours that work well with metallic gold are coral, blush pink, greyed jade and rose gold.

Go on, dazzle your guests with a cake like this!”

Shiny and tasty, two of our favourite things. We've spotted lots of glorious golden cakes popping up on Pinterest lately, so it looks like a trend that's really taking off. It sure adds a touch of glamour to the cake plate, don't you think?

Thanks so much Jaclyn for this great slice of inspiration, (if you haven't read her first column, you simply must) and stay tuned for her next column on all things buttercream. Yum.
