This is such a cool trend, and one I think will be especially popular with autumn and winter couples, looking to inject a little subtle sparkle into their wedding.
Gold leaf and glitter, gorgeous enough to eat!
The gold leaf trend for wedding cakes has been around for a while now, (we were way ahead of it last year, in our cake trends series!) but now the love of edible metallics is moving out into dessert tables, and beyond.

From dessert table staples, like macaroons and cookies, to edible decor like cherries and figs, adding a touch of glitter or some flecks of gold leaf, really takes them to the next level, and adds a sense of occasion to something otherwise ordinary.
A little gold goes a long way, so even if it's pricey to get a gold cake or gilded macaroons, talk to your cake baker about opting for a single gold tier, every second or third cookie with gold detail, or just a few gold leaf touches throughout.
DIY brides and grooms, could dip fruit in glitter to adorn your cakes or desserts (they also look really pretty in bowls on high cocktail tables!) or spray larger items (like pineapples) for something really impactful – just remember to use EDIBLE glitter, spray or gold leaf, yes?

So, to get on board this trend, and see how far you can go with it (I don't think your guests would appreciate a gilded steak, but gold flecks on the soup could be kind of cool!), be inspired with a few of our favourite gilded edibles, we've spotted so far…

Who knew gold food could be so pretty? Those doughnuts look delish! I really love how wedding food is getting a little more experimental and fun.
