Anna Lee Company are back with the first DIY post of the year. Hurrah!

Although I was not the craftiest of brides I really do appreciate a creative DIY tutorial and I definitely intend to flex my crafting muscles a little more this year.

The weird thing is, as an early years teacher, I love planning activities for the arts and crafts table at nursery but I suspect it's cleaning up the mess afterwards ~ the explosions of glitter, papier mache filled sinks and three year olds covered in glue that may have put me off DIY!

DIY Felt Pom Poms

Back in December the fabulous Kelly and Jodi of Anna Lee Company were busy adorning their Christmas gifts with charming felt details. But you could just as easily adapt their felt crafts to weddings. These felt pom poms are so cute ~ they'd look darling on favour boxes, used as cake toppers (similar to these button cake toppers), used en masse as centerpieces or even as a fun confetti alternative!

The Tutorial

I came across this wreath made from felt a while back and just adore the pattern the felt makes. We adapted this concept to make felt pom-poms for package ties. It would probably be better to sew them by hand but I just got out the glue gun and went to town and it did the job beautifully.

You will need 9 circles of felt, a glue gun and ribbon or twine. Take one of your circles and and lay it flat – this will be your base. Fold your ribbon/twine in half and glue the folded end in the center of your felt circle. Take another circle and fold in half and then in half again. Glue onto the circle with the ribbon and continue with 3 more felt circles. Flip over and do the same with your four (4) remaining circles. Once the glue dries, fluff your pom-pom and tie onto a package.

I simply wrapped baker’s twine around my box and then tied the pom-pom onto it. It makes such a statement. I also tried a variation with the pom-pom attached to a wooden dowel instead of the ribbon.

Cute, no?

You can see the rest of Anna Lee Company's felt crafts here. Check out their blog and Facebook page for a whole host of budget friendly and oh so creative DIY projects.

Do you have a material you'd like the girls to get crafty with?

They are on the hunt for ideas to help brides so why not leave them a little comment with your suggestion.

I'd love to see some luggage label craft ideas ~ they are such a cheap option for place settings/favour tags but how to jazz them up? And can you do anything else with them?
